Cummins C8.3 has quietly improved, every year. Dual Ni-Resist piston inserts reduce friction, increase piston life and decrease oil consumption. The combustion chamber bowl, crank angle and helical gear have all been modified to help reduce noise. An in-line fuel pump delivers fuel at higher injection pressures for cleaner combustion, more power and lower emissions. The result is higher torque output from less fuel. And, because you can run a C8.3 on every kind of fuel from Jet-A to kerosene to diesel, it's right at home in the most remote locations.

The C8.3 is built to last, with a cast-iron unitized block with fewer parts than traditional diesel designs, fewer joints and simplified maintenance. This block has been structurally reinforced to resist bending and torsion, eliminating 1 dBA of noise output. Even the gaskets have a special edge-molded design to eliminate possible leakage and reduce oil consumption. Heavy-duty features include:

  • Heavy-duty pistons with Ni-Resist inserts for longer life
  • Mid-stop cylinder liners that reduce cavitation and improve rebuildability
  • Plateau honing on the cylinder liners for near-perfect cylinder geometry, virtually eliminating oil consumption
  • A robust Holset HX40 wastegated turbo with excellent low-end torque
  • An in-line fuel pump that delivers higher injection pressures for cleaner combustion, more power and flexible fueling
  • A helical gear train that operates smoother and quieter
  • A proven design with millions of C Series engines in service everywhere around the world

The C8.3 is adaptable to a wide variety of equipment, operating everywhere around the world. There are literally hundreds of options to choose from, including:

  • Flywheels
  • Flywheel housings
  • Starters
  • Oil fill options
  • Alternators
  • Oil pans
  • Air-handling options
  • Cooling system options
  • Accessory drive mounting options
  • Fan drive options
  • And more
Maintenance Intervals.

The C8.3 is designed to run up to 500 hours between oil changes with the optional high-capacity oil pan, with little or no top-off needed. Plateau-honed cylinder liners, an innovative ring pack design and edge-molded gaskets all help to reduce oil consumption.

For complete maintenance information, please consult your Owner's Manual or Operations and Maintenance Manual.

The C8.3 comes with a full 2-year/2,000-hour warranty that covers all Cummins branded components, including electrics such as starters and alternators. Major components coverage continues into the third year, up to 10,000 hours of operation from the time your C8.3 engine goes in service.

Three simple steps explain everything you need to know:

Step One: Full coverage on all Cummins industrial engines and branded components with unlimited hours during the first year of operation. This includes Cummins branded electrics such as alternators, starters, etc.

Step Two: Full coverage is extended for the second year, up to 2,000 hours of operation. Total hours are cumulative from the time the engine goes in service.

Step Three: Major components coverage including block, crankshaft, camshaft and rods on all products for the third year or up to 10,000 hours of operation. Total hours are cumulative from the time the engine goes in service.

Getting every installation right - the first time - is what Cummins Advisor is all about. Advisor software builds a virtual model to make sure every system (air, intake, exhaust, cooling) is integrated for optimum performance. It takes into account everything from load factors to operating climates to duty cycles - then identifies systems or components that could negatively impact reliability - listing alternatives that deliver the performance you expect the first time - every time.
