Smart torque across the rpm range gives the QSK23 the power to pull away quickly and maintain speed on an uphill climb, no matter how heavy the load. A high-pressure injection (HPI) fuel system injects fuel at 29,000 psi for the best fuel economy of any engine in its class, while maintaining low emissions. Plus, the QSK23 has an underplate, a floating head cover, integrated front and rear gear housing and a rear gear train, all to keep engine noise to a minimum. That's something everyone on a work site can appreciate.

Cummins QSK23 shares the proven power cylinder design of our QST30 and QSK78 engines, for reliability and durability you can count on. Every day and every year. Here are just some of the heavy-duty components that make the QSK23 an excellent choice for the largest construction equipment.

  • One-Piece Cast Iron Block - Heavy-duty design with wide cylinder spacing for long life and excellent rebuildability
  • Full-Authority Electronic Controls - Sophisticated electronic controls optimize combustion based on engine load, atmospheric conditions, even fuel quality; they also provide advanced monitoring, diagnostic and reporting capabilities, with integrated engine protection features
  • High-Pressure Injection - Works at up to 29,000 psi to optimize engine response with the best fuel economy and lowest emissions
  • Precision-Honed Cylinder Liners - Precise liner machining with superior metal technology creates exceptional surface smoothness and durability; made of ferrous cast ductile iron so that expansion and contraction won't cause excess wear
  • Ferrous Cast Ductile Iron Pistons - For even expansion and contraction during thermal cycles; the same technology found in our 3500-hp QSK78
  • Large-Diameter Camshaft - 105 mm of hardened surfaces handle high load capacities; created specifically to work with high-pressure injection systems
  • Rear Gear Train - Significantly reduces engine noise
  • Seven-Bolt Cylinder Head - Delivers increased clamping force, enabling high cylinder and injector pressures
  • Two-Stage Oil Filter - Combination full-flow and bypass oil filter reduces maintenance costs as it extends service intervals
Maintenance Intervals.

Every mechanic knows, simpler is better. That's why Cummins QSK23 has an in-line 6-cylinder configuration, versus the competition's V-12.

And every foreman knows, the less time an engine spends in service, the more productive it is on the job. That's why Cummins QSK23 engines require oil and oil filter changes every 250 hours or 6 months.

When service is needed, the oil pump, water pump and accessories are all front-mounted and easy to reach.

For complete maintenance information, please consult your Owner's Manual or Operations and Maintenance Manual.

The base warranty includes full coverage on every QSK23 engine and branded components, including electrics such as starters and alternators for unlimited hours during the first year of operation, extending through 2 years or 2,000 hours (whichever comes first). The base warranty also includes 3-year/10,000-hour standard protection on major components.

Three simple steps explain everything you need to know:

Step One: Full coverage on all Cummins industrial engines and branded components with unlimited hours during the first year of operation. This includes Cummins branded electrics such as alternators, starters, etc.

Step Two: Full coverage is extended for the second year, up to 2,000 hours of operation. Total hours are cumulative from the time the engine goes in service.

Step Three: Major components coverage including block, crankshaft, camshaft and rods on all products for the third year or up to 10,000 hours of operation.

Extended coverage is available with our Encompass Protection Plans with the flexibility to meet the needs of your construction operation.  Cummins Encompass has you covered, around the clock and around the globe.

Getting every installation right - the first time - is as important to Cummins as it is to you. PowerMatch and Advisor help ensure that we get it right, every time.

PowerMatch.

Cummins partners with OEM engineers to test and match the power of the QSK23 engine to specific equipment models and applications. We use our advanced electronics to shape power curves and ratings to match the jobs your equipment will be doing, taking into account the working environment, load factors, ambient temperatures and operating modes. Then we optimize the engine's performance with other vehicle components, using Advisor.

Advisor.

Advisor software builds a virtual model to make sure every system (air, intake, exhaust, cooling) is integrated for optimum performance. It takes into account everything from load factors to operating climates to duty cycles - then identifies systems or components that could negatively impact reliability - listing alternatives that will deliver the performance you expect the first time - every time.
