The B Gas Plus, a 5.9-liter six-cylinder natural gas engine builds on the rugged, reliable design of Cummins diesel engines, particularly the venerable Cummins B Series, one of the most successful engine designs ever built. The Cummins Westport B Gas Plus engine is a six-cylinder natural gas engine that delivers robust power from 195 to 230 hp with ultra-low emissions and proven reliability. The B Gas Plus is ideal for shuttles, buses, local pickup and delivery trucks, step vans, yard spotters, street sweepers and other medium-duty applications. Worldwide, more than 4,000 engines are in service. It is designed to operate on compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) natural gas .

The design of the natural gas B Gas Plus begins with a block, crankshaft and other major components from the proven Cummins 5.9-liter B Series diesel engine. We add a sophisticated closed-loop lean-burn electronic ignition control system to create an EPA-certified, low-emissions, low-NOx, highly efficient and durable power plant that is the cleanest internal combustion engine in its class - and an extremely cost-effective solution to meet ultra-low emissions standards.

The B Gas Plus is designed for either compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) natural gas vehicles and instantly adjusts to variable fuel qualities, thereby reducing performance loss, increasing reliability and uptime, with lower maintenance costs. This wide fuel tolerance also gives Cummins Westport natural gas engines worldwide applicability. And its noticeably quieter operation - and 50% quieter when idling - is a big hit with both drivers and passengers.

The B Gas Plus engine is an excellent choice for 20,000- to 30,000-lb GCW/GVW short-haul applications such as pickup and delivery vehicles, shuttle buses and on/off-highway applications such as refuse trucks and dump trucks. Air/Fuel Regulation - Cummins closed-loop electronic control system based on Cummins CM556 ECM. Sensors for various engine parameters, exhaust backpressure, intake manifold temperature, fuel inlet pressure, knock detection, air-fuel ratio and fuel mass flow. Electronically controlled wastegated turbocharger.
Air Intake System - Charge air cooling is utilized to reduce emissions by lowering intake manifold air pressures.
Accessory Belt Drive System - Self-tensioning serpentine polyvee belt accessory drive system for water pump, engine-mounted fan hub and most alternators. Gear-driven air compressor with provision for gear-driven hydraulic pump.
Catalyst - Required for all models. Engine is certified to: U.S. EPA 2007, Euro V, and EEV.
Control System/Electronics - Features full drive-by-wire, enhanced controls and full electronics. The ECM monitors engine sensors, controls fuel and ignition systems, sets engine parameters and provides state-of-the-art data links and the ability to interface with Cummins INSITE™ and QuickCheck diagnostic service tools for fast troubleshooting. Crankshaft - Induction-hardened forged-steel crankshaft provides maximum strength and multiple regrind capability for long-term cost savings. Crankshaft is supported by seven main bearings for optimum durability.
Cylinder Block - Full-skirted block increases rigidity and strength. The design provides superior durability, as well as superior piston ring and bearing life.
Fuel Tolerance - Designed for compressed (CNG) or liquefied (LNG) natural gas vehicles. Its wide fuel tolerance - down to methane number 65 - increases uptime worldwide.

Pistons - For extended piston and ring life, a Ni-Resist insert is cast into the aluminum piston and carries the top piston ring.
