Whether you're fighting a brush fire or rushing paramedics to the scene of an accident, you need equipment you can count on. Every call. Every time. Cummins ISB gives you that kind of dependable performance. High-Pressure Common-Rail fuel injection combines with our patented Variable Geometry Turbo to deliver superior performance at every rpm. Plus, because our VG Turbo has only one moving part in the hot exhaust stream, it is inherently more reliable and durable.

And that's just for starters. Fuel economy is up to 2% better. Engine performance is stronger, yet there's 80% less noise. Integrated exhaust braking is standard, along with exceptional reliability. Yet, for all these enhancements, maintenance is kept to an absolute minimum.

ISB ratings go as high as 300 horsepower with 660 lb-ft of peak torque (350 lb-ft at clutch engagement), with enough power to drive 1,250-gpm pumps. All from an engine that weighs less than 1,200 pounds.

Every ISB is covered by a full 5-year/100,000-mile (160,935 km) standard warranty. All backed by the most extensive customer support network in the industry.

Need rugged, reliable auxiliary power? There's no better choice than an Onan® genset. Cummins engines and Onan gensets are backed by the same worldwide network of distributors/dealers, so we're able to offer design, manufacturing and customer support synergies not found in any other company supporting the fire/emergency industry.

The ISB is one powerful reason why Cummins engines are fast becoming the #1 choice for fire apparatus everywhere in North America.

The ISB features a High-Pressure Common-Rail (HPCR) fuel system. The constant flow of fuel produces quicker throttle response across every rpm. That means more power off the line and faster acceleration on every call. Constant injection pressures also help optimize timing for increased fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

ISB engines feature a Variable Geometry Turbocharger from Holset that constantly adjusts airflow based on engine load, ambient pressure and other conditions. The result is improved response and stronger clutch engagement torque, every time you step on the throttle. This VG Turbo has a single sliding nozzle, eliminating dozens of parts and increasing dependability and durability.

And here's something every firefighter can appreciate: The ISB not only runs faster on less fuel - it also runs up to 7 decibels quieter at idle. That's 80% less noise, inside and out.

The ISB not only delivers lower emissions, it also delivers increased fuel economy. Based on field test results, you can expect the ISB to deliver up to 2% better fuel economy than its predecessor.

Most Variable Geometry Turbochargers use flexible vanes, with literally dozens of wear points and individual parts constantly moving under intense pressure and heat.

The Holset Variable Geometry Turbocharger is different. It replaces the movable vanes with a simple sliding nozzle, eliminating dozens of parts and increasing dependability and durability. This patented design has already been proven highly effective and reliable in over 150,000 vehicles worldwide.

With over three million B Series engines in use around the globe, there's no question about the dependability or durability of this proven engine platform.

Today's ISB is our strongest, most reliable engine yet. It features the patented VG Turbo with only one moving part in the hot exhaust stream (competitive turbos have dozens). The engine block has been stiffened to enhance durability and reduce noise. Gallery cooling lowers piston temperatures for longer life. An integrated oil cooler lowers oil temperatures and a state-of-the art Fleetguard® oil filter extends component and engine life. Plus, a self-tensioning belt drive system reduces maintenance and increases belt life for both the fan and alternator.

Heavy-duty components and advanced design features give the ISB longer life-to-overhaul, with increased performance and lasting value. And that's something you can rely on every minute of every call.

Another benefit of the Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VG Turbo) is improved braking performance from an integrated exhaust brake. This increased braking capacity gives every driver greater control on every downhill grade. It also reduces wear on service brakes, lengthening service intervals and minimizing maintenance costs.

The ISB is designed for simple, easy maintenance every time.

Oil, oil filter and fuel filter changes for the ISB are set at 500 hours, 6 months or 15,000-mile (24,000 km) intervals. The overhead doesn't need to be checked for 5,000 hours, 48 months or 150,000 miles (240,000 km).

The standard coolant change interval is 24 months or 60,000 miles (96,000 km). However, Cummins ISB is fully compatible with long-life coolant/antifreeze formulas which allow changes out to every 600,000 miles (960,000 km) or 6 years. Follow maintenance guidelines recommended by the manufacturer for safe use with extended service intervals.
