Cummins ISM is built to respond fast to every emergency. An exceptional power-to-weight ratio and high-pressure fuel injection combine with our patented Variable Geometry Turbocharger to deliver superior throttle response with durability and reliability that you can count on, every call and every run. The ISM also performs strongly at the scene, providing high pumping pressure quietly and efficiently at low rpms. Every time.

Fire and Emergency ratings range from 340 to 500 hp with up to 1550 lb-ft of peak torque. Our patented Variable Geometry Turbo adds performance at every rpm. For extra braking power, we offer the C Brake™ by Jacobs®*, an engine brake specifically designed for the ISM.

Maintenance is minimized, while fuel economy is maximized. And every ISM is backed by the most extensive customer support network in the industry.

Plus, when you need rugged, reliable auxiliary power, there's no better choice than an Onan® genset. Cummins engines and Onan gensets are backed by the same worldwide network of distributors/dealers, so we're able to offer design, manufacturing and customer support synergies not found in any other company supporting the fire/emergency industry.

With an exceptional record for reliability, strong support from our local dealer network, a strong warranty and high-performance engines like the ISM, there's no question why Cummins has become the #1 choice for custom-built fire apparatus everywhere in North America.

At 340-500 horsepower, the ISM gets you to the scene quickly and efficiently. Our patented Holset Variable Geometry Turbocharger. produces quicker throttle response with less turbo "lag." That means faster acceleration from the moment you pull out of the firehouse all the way through the gears. Infinite adjustment provides the exact amount of boost needed at every engine speed, while the sliding nozzle design eliminates dozens of moving parts for superior reliability and durability. The VG Turbo, together with an integrated block design, gives the ISM an exceptional power-to-weight ratio and superior performance.

With literally decades of development and real-world experience behind it, Cummins ISM offers reliability you can count on, every time you fire it up. Like the ISX, it uses our patented VG Turbo which only has one moving part in the hot exhaust stream (competitive turbos have dozens).

This engine has proven dependable in thousands of on-highway trucks pulling 40 tons or more, 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. So you know it's got the guts to take every kind of punishment your fire department throws at it.

Cummins ISM delivers reliability you can count on, every day, every month and every year.

Most Variable Geometry Turbochargers use flexible vanes, with literally dozens of wear points and individual parts constantly moving under intense pressure and heat.

The Holset Variable Geometry Turbocharger is different. It replaces the movable vanes with a simple sliding nozzle, eliminating dozens of parts and increasing dependability and durability. This patented design has already been proven highly effective and reliable in over 150,000 vehicles worldwide.

Extra control. Extra service brake life. Extra peace of mind. You get it all with the optional C Brake™ by Jacobs®.* Specifically designed for the ISM by the leader in engine braking technology, this compression braking system gives fire apparatus extra braking horsepower. Whether you are driving an aerial up and down steep hills, stopping a fully-loaded pumper or simply want to make your service brakes last substantially longer, the C Brake by Jacobs is a great addition to every ISM-powered fire vehicle.

Oil, oil filter and fuel filter change intervals for the ISM are every 15,000 miles (24,000 km). The coolant filter* needs to be changed every 50,000 miles (80,000 km). Valve adjustment shouldn't be needed until you've reached 120,000 miles (192,000 km).

The standard coolant change interval is 240,000 miles (385,000 km). However, Cummins ISM is fully compatible with long-life coolant/antifreeze formulas which allow changes out to every 600,000 miles (960,000 km) or 6 years. Follow maintenance guidelines recommended by the manufacturer for safe use with extended service intervals.
