In an emergency, every second counts. You need performance you can count on, and Cummins ISX answers the call. Dual overhead cams combine with our patented Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VG Turbo) to deliver a 525-horsepower rating with 1650 lb-ft of peak torque for superior performance at every rpm. What's more, you also get the added control and stopping capability (over 600 braking horsepower) of the standard Intebrake™ braking system.

The advanced design of the ISX keeps maintenance to an absolute minimum. As you can see from our 360-degree video, external lines and connectors have been integrated to reduce maintenance points.

With an exceptional record for reliability, strong support from our local distributors, an exceptional warranty and the most extensive customer support network in the industry, which includes Cummins QuickServe®, it's no wonder Cummins has become the #1 choice for custom-built fire apparatus everywhere in North America.

Plus, when you need rugged, reliable auxiliary power, there's no better choice than an Onan® genset. Cummins engines and Onan gensets are backed by the same worldwide network of distributors/dealers, so we're able to offer design, manufacturing and customer support synergies not found in any other company supporting the fire/emergency industry.

Cummins unique dual overhead camshaft design delivers high performance, low emissions and exceptional braking. The first cam drives high-pressure fuel injection for clean, responsive power. The second cam includes a dedicated set of lobes for the operation of the integrated engine brake, in addition to operating the intake and exhaust valves. High-pressure fuel injection gives the ISX cleaner, more complete combustion. Variable Geometry Turbocharging produces quicker throttle response, eliminating turbo "lag" for faster acceleration off the line and on every highway on-ramp. Computer-controlled infinite adjustment provides the exact amount of boost needed at every engine speed.

No matter how big fire equipment is, or how heavy the load it has to carry, the ISX can handle it with ease. Every time.

The ISX is a proven performer. Tens of thousands of ISX-powered vehicles on the road since October of 2002 have racked up billions of miles. That's dependability you can count on.

One reason that every ISX is so reliable is our patented VG Turbo. With only one moving part in the hot exhaust stream (competitive VG Turbos have dozens), it is both remarkably simple and yet incredibly efficient.

When firefighters go to battle, they must have every confidence in their equipment. With Cummins ISX, you get that…every time.

Most Variable Geometry Turbochargers use flexible vanes, with literally dozens of wear points and individual parts constantly moving under intense pressure and heat.

The Holset Variable Geometry Turbocharger is different. It replaces the movable vanes with a simple sliding nozzle, eliminating dozens of parts and increasing dependability and durability. This patented design has already been proven highly effective and reliable in over 150,000 vehicles worldwide.

One big difference between Cummins ISX and every other diesel engine InteBrake™ is that our engine braking system has been designed in from the start, not added on later. So it is lighter than other compression braking systems, but still develops up to 600 braking horsepower. The Intebrake is driven by special lobes on the second camshaft, designed to optimize operation. And it incorporates multiple settings, so drivers can "dial in" the exact amount of engine braking that is needed to handle every moderate grade or a steep hill. Use of the Intebrake will help reduce wear and heat build-up on service brakes, which will make them last longer and save maintenance costs down the road.

Oil, oil filter and fuel filter change intervals for the ISX are set for 15,000 miles (24,000 km). The coolant filter needs to be changed every 50,000 miles (80,000 km). Valve adjustment won't be needed until you've reached 120,000 miles (192,000 km).

The standard coolant change interval is 250,000 miles (400,000 km). However, Cummins ISX is fully compatible with long-life coolant/antifreeze formulas that allow changes out to 600,000 miles (960,000 km) or 6 years. Follow maintenance guidelines recommended by the manufacturer for safe use with extended service intervals.

When it's time for maintenance, be sure to visit your Cummins distributor for fast, accurate service.
