INDIANAPOLIS (April 22, 2010) - Cummins announced its introduction of the new ISX15 as part of the complete lineup of EPA 2010 engines for fire and emergency vehicle applications. The ISX15 with the Cummins Aftertreatment System utilizing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology provides improved reliability, durability and fuel economy and is on display at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, April 22-24.

“The Cummins suite of engine offerings provides our customers with options to fit the specific needs of their operations,” said David Koppenhofer – Cummins Executive Director, North American OEM Business. “With the availability of the ISX15, Cummins complete lineup of on-highway engines will now be offered in both commercial and custom chassis for fire and emergency vehicle applications,” Koppenhofer added.

Cummins on-highway engines for 2010 will incorporate an enhanced cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, a single VGT™ Turbocharger and the Cummins Aftertreatment System with SCR technology, providing near-zero emissions and meeting EPA 2010 regulations. Additionally, the ISX15, as well as the ISL9 and ISC8.3, features the Cummins XPI fuel system, which is able to produce extremely high-pressure fuel injection independent of engine speed.

Cummins ISX15, ISL9, ISC8.3 and ISB6.7 engines for 2010 are fully EPA- and ARB-certified and are in full production at Cummins manufacturing facilities in Jamestown, N.Y., and Rocky Mount, N.C. To date, Cummins has produced over 3,500 EPA-certified 2010 engines. Cummins new ISX11.9 will be in full production in August.

Leading to the full production of the EPA 2010 engines for on-highway applications, Cummins followed stringent product-testing protocol through which engines are rigorously tested for performance and reliability. Cummins utilizes cutting-edge technology for in-house testing through the use of automated data analysis. Cummins has equipped more than 200 vehicles in on-highway applications – including internal test vehicles and customer field test vehicles – with a proprietary datalogger that enables Cummins to log nearly 240 different variables while the vehicle is in operation. This method of acquiring, processing and analyzing the constant feed of data allows Cummins engineering to immediately identify and address any potential issues prior to product introduction.

Cummins EPA 2010 engines have been tested and validated and are available in nearly 180 installations for on-highway vehicle applications, including many specific to fire and emergency applications, by over a dozen commercial and customer chassis manufacturers.
